Body Composition Analysis (BCA)
Body composition is the amount of water, lean body mass and fat in the human body. The true definition of obesity is based on the percentage of body fat. Since muscle weighs more than fat and muscle dictates metabolism, a person can be overweight according to the BMI chart, but within normal fat limits.
Body Composition Analysis (BCA) can determine how much of your body weight is fat mass, and therefore what percent your body fat is. Our goal is to help you have good quality weight loss, which means, loss of body fat mass only. Rapid weight loss can result is sacrificing too much lean body mass (which may ultimately slow down your metabolism making the weight loss harder to sustain long–term). We want to help you lose weight rapidly, but not at the expense of losing lean body mass. This is why we measure your body composition at each and every visit, so we can monitor the quality of your weight loss.
Eating Plan
Our program incorporates a medically formulated Quick Start Low Calorie Diet (LCD) that fires up your metabolism, forces your body to burn calories stored as excess fat, and protects muscle mass with optimal daily protein intake. The Quick Start Low Calorie Diet (LCD) medical weight management program limits its patients to a diet of 1000 to 1200 calories per day. In the average American diet most of the calories are derived from carbohydrates and protein. The Quick Start Low Calorie Diet inverts that ratio by deriving 50–60 percent of total energy from high–quality protein, and then dividing the rest of the calories between carbohydrates and fat. The LCD Quick Start plans include meal replacements (shakes/puddings and crunch bars), supplements (nutrition bars, hot cocoa, crunchy snacks) and 1–2 small meals per day, so that you are "fueling the furnace" with 5 to 6 small, but filling meals per day. You will not feel hungry!
It is virtually impossible to gain weight when you follow our plan. Your personalized plan will force your metabolism to turn food into energy instead of fat. On the Low Calorie Diet (LCD), you will not suffer hunger pangs. You will have abundant energy and feel good, often better than you have in years. Weight loss varies, but women typically lose about 2–3 pounds weekly, and men 3–4 pounds weekly. In 12 weeks you can lose 24 – 48 pounds or more!
Physical Activity
Physical movement positively affects body chemistry. We'll show you activities that maximize these positive effects in the least amount of time — producing metabolic changes that improve fat burning, increase resting metabolic rate, increase energy level, decrease hunger and appetite, and lengthen your active, vital life–span. Even five minutes a day of the right kind of physical activity can have a profoundly positive effect. We recommend daily activity for everyone. Of course, the more exercise the better, but every bit of exercise counts. No workout is too short; it is the weekly accumulation that is important.
Medication
The use of appetite suppression medications can be extremely effective. In certain cases, appetite suppressant medications can work very well in controlling and suppressing appetite, take your focus off food, and help decrease munching or grazing when hungry. In most cases, however, these medications are unnecessary because our eating plan is designed to eliminate hunger pangs entirely. Dr. Tanne will determine the use of and need for medication.
Behavior Modification
To lose weight and keep it off, behaviors need to change. That's why our program includes powerful behavior modification tools that go right to the root of your weight gaining behaviors. Together, we'll identify your specific habits that result in weight gain. We'll show you how to reduce negative feelings (like depression, deprivation, loneliness, and boredom) that can lead to stress, which in turn increases the fat–storage hormone cortisol. Then we'll provide you with easy–to–follow guidelines designed to help you control your behavior so you create new weight loss habits. You'll discover, for instance, how to keep negative weight–gaining thoughts out of your head, and how to easily create new eating habits that will help you keep your weight off.
Coaching and Empowerment
At Cosmetic Laser MD we know how hard it is to stay committed to a weight loss regimen. Our goal is to end the struggle once and for all. It's easy to be motivated when you start losing weight, but maintaining that motivation over time is the key. To achieve that, our program provides coaching and empowerment tools to keep your motivation up and your weight down. These include weekly visits with our experienced staff. Dr. Tanne and her staff are your own personal weight–loss coaches until you reach your goal weight, offering encouragement, advice and monitoring your progress. You will discover how to assert your right to be thin; how to create a better self–image; how to love your body. When you have reached your goal weight, we will introduce the Maintenance Program that will ensure you maintain your weight loss forever.
