Melanage Skin Lightening Peel

Melanage Skin Lightening Peel

What is the Melanage Skin Lightening Peel?

Do you have uneven skin tone, deep pigment issues or melasma? The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin which involves a medicate masque and an at–home regimen. This peel is safe and effective for all skin types including dark skin. There is no pain and little–to–no irritation during the application of the mask, and typically, the irritation level on the following days is more like a sunburn.

How does it work?

Melanage 1 Masque is applied during an office visit, where it is compounded freshly by Dr. Tanne to ensure its potency and reliability. The application of Melanage 1 Masque takes approximately 20 minutes. A uniform layer of Melanage is applied by Dr. Tanne. No discomfort is experienced and patients describe procedure as soothing and relaxing. It is recommended to tie back your hair away from face, to avoid getting product in it. Patients leave the office with this masque on their face. The masque will remain on face for 5 to 10 hours according to the patient's skin type. The rest of your treatment will continue at home and will involve several follow up visits with Dr. Tanne during the first month. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy–to–follow, by strict, at–home regimen involving the application of several Melanage products following masque removal.

How many treatments will I need?

Only one treatment is initially recommended but a touch–up treatment can be performed on problem spots after one month. If needed, treatments can be repeated once a year.

What will I experience after treatment?

Your skin may have a light yellow tinge immediately after removal of the masque. This is temporary and will fade in a few hours.

Your skin may be more red than usual after removal of the masque and for the next seven days.

Approximately 48 hours after the treatment your skin will start to peel which will generally last 2–5 days.

Patients must follow the at–home regimen for optimal results. You will be provided, at no additional charge, with an at–home skincare product kit containing an Anti–Redness Foaming Cleanser, Anti–Redness Soothing Balm, Antioxidant Soothing Balm Sunscreen SPF 30, and Melanage 2 Créme. This kit is valued at about $250 and should last about 3 months.

What results can I expect?

Results will vary but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminution of fine lines and pigmentation. Proper skin evaluation by Dr. Tanne prior to your peel is important, and will help predict the outcome of your peel.

Who should not be treated?

The Melanage Skin Lightening Peel SHOULD NOT be used on patients with active cold sores or warts, skin with open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis or inflammatory rosacea in the area to be treated. Inform Dr. Tanne and her staff if you have any history of herpes simplex. You should also not have a Melanage Skin Lightening Peel if you have a history of allergies, rashes or other skin reactions, or may be sensitive to any of the components of this treatment. This peel is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The Melanage Peel should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women.

B-LIFTx®

This is the perfect peel for oily/clogged skin. Salicylic acid is used to remove blackheads and whiteheads and because it is oil soluble it exfoliates even oil-clogged pores. Dead skin cells are encouraged to shed, resulting in more even skin tone. Oily skin and mild acne is improved, enlarged pores appear smaller, superficial scars are reduced and skin appears healthier and more youthful. Expect no down time and a slight flaking of the skin.  Optimal results are achieved when performed in a series of six.

What is B-LIFTx™?

B-LIFTx™ is a major scientific advance. It is a unique formulation containing salicylic acid, (known as beta hydroxyl acids), with patented MICROSPONGE technology. Unlike traditional chemical peels, B-LIFTx™ delivers outstanding results without risking injury to the skin. This is accomplished by lifting the dry, dead cells off the surface of the skin and stimulating the process of skin renewal.

How does B-LIFTx™ work?

B-LIFTx™ works in two ways. First, it dissolves the "glue" that binds together the dead cells on the surface of your skin. By dissolving this "glue," B-LIFTx™ is able to lift these dead cells from the surface to reveal the fresh cells underneath. The result is an immediate improvement in the smoothness and radiance of your skin. B-LIFTx™ lifts dead, dull cells off the surface of your skin.  The procedure stimulates a "burst of renewal" within your skin to bring healthy, young, living cells to the surface.  B-LIFTx™ is also able to penetrate skin follicles - making B-LIFTx™ a well-suited chemical peel for conditions such as acne, acne/rosacea and enlarged pores.

There is no downtime with B-LIFTx™.  Your skin immediately looks and feels smoother and tighter.  Your face may temporarily appear a bit rosy.  In a day or two, your acne may begin peeling.  The degree of peeling can vary from invisible, to mild, to noticeable peeling and flaking.  This will depend on your skin and other factors Dr. Tanne can discuss with you.

How does B-LIFTx™ differ from chemical peels?

B-LIFTx™ has important advantages over traditional chemical peels. Unlike those other peels, B-LIFTx™ does not damage the integrity of the cells. This means that you can continue to have regularly scheduled B-LIFTx™ treatments for as long as you want. Over time, B-LIFTx™ will not only rejuvenate the appearance of your skin but will allow your skin to build and maintain a healthy barrier function against the environment -- one of the skin's primary roles.

What visible results can I expect from B-LIFTx™?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles become less apparent.
  • Skin tone evens out.
  • Oily or acne-prone skin is improved.
  • Enlarged pores appear smaller.
  • Superficial scars appear reduced.
  • Skin appears healthier and more youthful.

B-LIFTx Skin Care Tips

  • Sun protection of at least SPF 15 is a daily must following your B-LIFTx treatment.
  • Gently cleanse your face twice daily.
  • Apply moisturizer daily and protect your skin. Moisturizing helps to diminish the appearance of flaking.
  • Discuss with Dr. Tanne the frequency with which you should have B-LIFTx procedures.
  • Ask your Dr. Tanne about a daily use vitamin A (retinol) product with anti-aging benefits which expand the improvements gained from B-LIFTx.
  • Your emerging beautiful skin should be treated gently. Avoid products that can be irritating such as granular scrubs or masks that must be peeled or rolled off.
  • Wait at least one week to have a facial or professional cleansing treatment.
  • Consult our office if unexpected conditions arise as a result of this procedure.

Dr. Tanne Signature Peel

The Dr. Tanne Signature Peel is an in–office superficial chemical peel utilizing a combination of weak acids to simultaneously help brighten skin with reduced risk of post–inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin). The peel is administered in a series of 4–6 treatments every 2–3 weeks for enhanced skin brightening and smoothing of the skin. With this peel we include a comprehensive at–home regimen that encourages compliance and reduces likelihood of re–pigmentation.

What is the Dr. Tanne Signature Peel?

The Dr. Tanne Signature Peel represents a new generation of chemical peels that help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots (hyperpigmentation). The Dr. Tanne Signature Peel uses weak acids combined with potent non–acidic ingredients that do not burn, wound or injure the skin, and for this reason can be used to treat patients with darker complexions. While some patients may feel a mild tingling sensation from the peeling solution, the treatment is virtually painless.

How does it work?

Dr. Tanne Signature Peel Solution is applied during an in–office visit. The solution is removed by the patient after a required length of time depending on his or her skin type. Patients leave the office with this solution on their face. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy–to–follow, but strict, at–home regimen involving the application of several customized products following removal of the Dr. Tanne Signature Peel solution.

What results can I expect?

Results will vary but generally patients will see an improvement in the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the Dr. Tanne Signature Peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines, pigmentation and breakouts. Proper skin evaluation by Dr. Tanne prior to your peel is important and will help predict the outcome of your peel.

How does the Dr. Tanne Signature Peel compare to our more aggressive Melanage™ Skin Lightening System?

There is considerably less redness and peeling than with our Melanage™ Peel. The Dr. Tanne Signature Peel is designed to be administered in a series of 4–6 in–office treatments, every 2–3 weeks, for enhanced skin brightening and smoothing.

Glycolic Acid Peel

Glycolic Acid Peel

A glycolic acid peel (or light chemical peel) is a non–invasive treatment that removes the upper layers of dead and damaged skin and encourages skin cell regeneration. This type of peel provides gentle treatment for fine lines, acne, chronic dry skin, and uneven pigmentation. The formulation of the chemical solution used in a light chemical peel depends on the needs of the individual patient.

What is a Glycolic Acid Peel?

Glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that occurs naturally in sugar cane, is the most common ingredient of light chemical peels. The ingredients and formulation of a light chemical peel, however, depend upon the specific patient's skin care needs. With light chemical peels, the chemical solution is left on the skin for a relatively short amount of time.

When applied to the face or another part of the body, the AHA chemical peel solution works by removing the outer layers of skin so that a new, smooth layer of skin is revealed. The action of the chemical solution stimulates the production of elastin and collagen, essential components of healthy, youthful skin.

Candidates for Glycolic Acid Peels

Good candidates for glycolic acid peels (a light chemical peel) are patients who have relatively mild skin imperfections and conditions, and who want to rejuvenate and enhance the appearance of their skin without the recovery time of harsher treatments. Glycolic acid peels (AHA chemical peels) are a safe and effective way to improve the look of sun–damaged skin, and they are helpful in reducing mild acne scars and fine lines. Because these light chemical peels exfoliate the surface of the skin and unclog pores, they are also considered and effective type of chemical peel for acne treatment.

Glycolic Acid Peel Application

In preparation for a glycolic acid peel, the patient's skin is first gently cleansed. Then the chemical solution is applied to the targeted areas. The specific formulation and concentration of the glycolic acid (AHA) solution depend on the patient's needs.

An anesthetic is unnecessary for light chemical peels.  As the chemical solution works on the skin, the patient will typically feel a warm tingling or stinging sensation. After the chemical solution has been on the skin for the prescribed amount of time, Dr. Tanne will apply a de–activating solution to wash away the peel, and then apply soothing skin care products and sunscreen.

The entire process of a glycolic acid peel usually takes less about 30 minutes or less, and the patient typically experiences little or no skin redness or other side effects. After a glycolic acid peel, patients can return to daily activities immediately. A series treatments is recommended to achieve optimal results.

Glycolic Peel Recovery

Glycolic acid peels require no recovery time. Though your skin may be flake mildly or be slightly irritated after a glycolic acid peel (or, AHA chemical peel), you should be able to return to work or everyday activities almost immediately after treatment.

After your peel, Dr. Tanne will give you guidelines to follow to help ensure the success of your treatment. Generally, patients are instructed to use a gentle cleanser and specified moisturizing lotion, and to avoid exposing the treated skin to the sun.

Following your Glycolic Acid peel, you will notice that the treated skin has improved tone, texture, and pigmentation. You should see further improvement as your course of treatments progresses.

Are Multiple Glycolic Acid Peels Required to Achieve Desired Results?

Unlike deep chemical peels, which require only one session, patients generally undergo a series of six glycolic acid chemical peels to achieve optimal results. To learn about the ideal treatment for your particular skin enhancement needs, it is best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Tanne.
